Evening visit until midnight close. After intake severely thwarted at Rochford Beer Festival this provided a lower strength pint or two. What changes on the walk from Stratford station, I hardly recognised some buildings and road layout since my last visit even once asking directions!

Afternoon visit and busy at the bar. Of the three guest ale pump clips on the bar two were badged as Coming Soon.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Wadworth - Fort Barcelona Session Ale5.00ExcellentA good tasty pint.

Evening. A thirst generated by a journey back from Kent. Stayed until minutes before midnight close.

13:50 Lunch stop after all the railway excitement. Not too busy.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Titanic - Eight Bells4.50Good
Hackney - American Pale Ale4.50AcceptableI keep trying Hackney beers but after a number of disappointing pints I think I shall give them a miss in future.

Late evening. A large crowd of Chinese or Japanese were in all seeming to want fizz John Smith's Bitter. A scarily big boys' corporate beer range here this evening.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Banks & Taylor's (B&T) - Shefford Old Dark (SOD)5.00AcceptableTypical B&T metallic smell and taste. Not very nice

Eagle (formerly Wells & Young's, formerly Charles Wells, formerly Wells) - Young's London Special (was Special)4.50Not TriedIrritating to see the clip extol Bob Nisbet, Young's brewmaster (signature and all) yet there is no such thing as the Young's Brewery. We need legislation to prevent this
Everards (see entries against Joule's & Robinsons whilst its new brewery was being built) - Sudwerk Inbetween4.80Not Tried
29 Oct 2015 (Philip Pirrip)
Evening until close. 2 more disappointing festival ales.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Moorhouse's - Pendle Witches Brew5.10GoodIn good enough condition but not inspiring
Butcombe - Chinook APA4.20AcceptableI think a sour single hopper like this needs to be to a higher abv. This was a chore to drink

Evening until close. Often gets hostile to drinkers to get them out as soon as closing time has been reached.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Caledonian - Heineken Flying Dutchman Spiced Ale4.40AcceptableMy marks have dropped from Excellent at Stroud, to Good at Lewisham to Acceptable here in 3 consecutive pints
Hook Norton - Fat Head's Yakima Sun5.00AcceptableWaste of time. The trouble with many American "inspired" brews is that they are hardly beers at all - this was a pretty unpleasant sour concoction which stretched the definition of beer to the limit

My memories of this pub go back to the somewhat riotous opening night party in 1993 when everything, literally everything, was free to invited guests. But tonight’s experiment with visiting chain pubs for a change has not really cheered me. It is busy here, with a couple of drunks blocking the bar and food detritus on the few free tables.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Banks's - Botanical Beer4.20GoodI could see no mention of the brewery origin on the pumpclip. Unusual, spiced, herbal beer brewed with ‘gruit’ rather than hops.

Evening late. Hobson's choice with worst cask range I've ever seen in a 'Spoon's. What use are "AVAILABLE SOON"s to me.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Adnams - Broadside4.70AcceptableTasted like it was fresh from its first day of fermentation rather than its last. Sweet, malty and incomplete
