Nice looking exterior, shall we say the interior has character. They were setting up the sound system for the live entertainment provided on a Saturday night. Sounded promising, but it had been a long day at the doubler header at Twickenham so headed for home.

12:30 Second stop. Had the pub to ourselves and the Landlord was happy for us to have a good look around and take photographs. Three interesting rooms, plus a publican's office a reasonably rare pub feature. The outbuilding was formerly a stable block for a dray horse.

Busy with a visit from the Thursday evening mild drinkers.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Summer Wine (SWB) - Resistance Dark Mild3.70ExcellentRoasty toasty malt flavour dominates and subtle hopping gives the right balance of flavours. My score 16/20.
Epicurus Craft Beer (formerly Hornbeam) - Dark & Divine4.00GoodRuby/brown beer that is quite mildlike in character, being fairly malty with just a touch of hops in the finish. My score 15/20.
23 Jun 2011 (Martin the Mildman)
Busy with the Thursday evening mild drinkers and locals gathering for the quiz night.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Moorhouse's - Black Cat Mild3.40ExcellentIn top form here, rich and chocolatey with a liquorice tang. Exceptional depth of flavour for its strength. My score 17/20.
Brentwood - Marvellous Maple Mild3.70ExcellentSweet and syrupy dark brown mild with little hoppiness and a sweet, fruity finish. My score 16/20.
Mad Squirrel (formerly Red Squirrel) - Mild3.70GoodSlightly hazy amber mild with a biscuity malt flavour and lowish hoppiness. Fruity finish. My score 15/20.
Surrey Hills - Greensands4.80GoodHoppy IPA style beer with the citrus flavours of American hops. Good balance and a dryish citrus hop finish. My score 15/20.

Busy with a visit from the mild drinkers club and quiz night.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Coach House - Gunpowder Strong Mild3.80ExceptionalExcellent smooth sweet mild with lots of caramel, toffee and milk chocolate flavours. Silky smooth mouthfeel and a lingering sweet malty finish with no hoppiness. A proper mild. My score 19/20.
Naylor's - Pinnacle Mild3.40AcceptableRed/brown mild with a very bitter, nutty flavour. High bitterness doesn't make this a very good mild in my opinion. My score 12/20.

BeerABVScoreNotes
Titanic - Mild3.50ExcellentPlenty of sweet and malty flavours in this, caramel, toffee and a hint of chocolate. Low hop rate and a dry, fruity finish. My score 16/20.
Rudgate - Ruby Mild4.40GoodNot as bitter as recent samples, with a little toffee malt coming through. Probably cellared for a while here. My score 15/20.

had been looking forward to this place for some months. My partner and I decided to try it out last night. Walking into this pub you find two halves. The lounge bar and saloon bar. Clearly both occupied by different groups of persons. We chose the lounge side. There was a fairly pleasant quiet but zoned atmosphere. The bar had some regulars propping up the bar, and some quiet groups dotted around the rest of the pub. The beer selection was what shocked me most. Youngs, Deuchars, GK IPA, London Pride, Speckled Hen, Seafarers, Bonkers Conkers, and Hogs Back Autumn ale..
BeerABVScoreNotes
