Early evening. After three CAMRA heritage pubs I though I’d try this ftom my Pubs and Beer wish list. Definitely the best of the four pubs for ambience - a real drinkers pub feel to this. Fascinating decor ranging from signed old celeb photos, artwork, posters, an antelope’s head and huge brass vessels hanging from the ceiling.

Good to discover that one at least of Soho's institutions continues unchanged. Fairly quiet at lunchtime.

12:30 4th pub of the day. A few in. Had a chat with Ms Brodie and discovered that the pub has been in their family for forty years. Her Grandfather ran the pub in the 1970s. Noted that the bar counter is inter-war and still retains the beer engine service doors. We also discovered that the pub was originally two buildings.

12:28 I hadn't been here since 1999. We were in the French House when the Admiral Duncan bomb went off and when we were let out by the police we came here for a calming pint or two. The pub seems to have more bric-a-brac than then. No other customers when we first went in but Ms Brodie, her brother and the Brodie's brewer were in attendance.

Quite busy in the mid-evening, although a table was found after a little while.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Brodie's (latterly contract brewed by Rhymney) - Mosaic3.90ExcellentI’m beginning to think that the Mosaic hop is at its best in a dark beer – but this was pretty good. A zesty, light-bodied, light-coloured, heavily-hopped beer.
Brodie's (latterly contract brewed by Rhymney) - Indian Summer4.30GoodAn unusual, fruity, herbal, possibly spicy mix. Long bitter finish.

Quite busy here in the mid-evening.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Brodie's (latterly contract brewed by Rhymney) - London Fields Pale Ale4.00ExcellentPale gold beer with extreme bitter hoppiness.
Brodie's (latterly contract brewed by Rhymney) - London Sour - Elderflower3.70AcceptableOn keg dispense; cold and gassy. Very sour. The elderflower did not seem to add much and I did not enjoy this anything like as much as other beers in the London sour series.
Brodie's (latterly contract brewed by Rhymney) - Elderflower Lager4.50UndrinkableThis was dreadful. An odd grey/brown colour and very murky. It advertises ‘Added Bret’, but this had an unpleasant, extreme sourness. I thought perhaps it was the absolute last dregs, but I was assured that ‘it’s meant to be like that’. I could not manage more than a mouthful.

BeerABVScoreNotes
Brodie's (latterly contract brewed by Rhymney) - London Fields Pale Ale4.00ExcellentVery pale, hoppy and bitter.
Brodie's (latterly contract brewed by Rhymney) - Bacon Chinook IPA6.00ExcellentOn key-keg dispense. I thought I read 6.5% on the clip, but all references say it is 6.0%. Golden and cloudy. Hoppy and, er, bacony.
Brodie's (latterly contract brewed by Rhymney) - Chinook Coffee IPA6.00GoodOn key-keg dispense. Black and dominated by a roasted coffee flavour.

Early evening visit and the pub is quiet enough to be able to get a seat.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Brodie's (latterly contract brewed by Rhymney) - London Fields Pale Ale4.00ExcellentGolden and bitter.
Brodie's (latterly contract brewed by Rhymney) - London Sour - Pineapple3.70GoodOn keg dispense. Pale gold and a bit hazy. It’s got pineapple in it and it is definitely sour – as described in the name. Somebody who ordered one was complaining that it was sour! Challenging – I think on balance that I prefer cherry or raspberry as a flavouring for beer.

The pub is found in Soho, Central London, W1F 9SB.

A cramped, little corner pub in Soho which is leased to Brodie's of Leyton (now of south Wales)- selling that brewery's beers. The interior is full of interest with bric-a-brac and breweriana, including some nice Truman's mirrors. There are ten handpumps on the bar counter.

We have visited this pub 11 times, seen 26 different beers and tried 18 of them.
