Totally by chance I bump into my mate Dave who lives almost next door to this pub and we pop in for a quick one, sitting at the bar.

A friend has just bought a flat around the corner and Chris and I joined him this-evening to check out his four nearest pubs for ‘local’ potential. This first stop was my favourite.

Only my second ever visit here, and I had forgotten what a nice pub it is. Quiet in the late afternoon, with some laid back reggae on the stereo. The pub has links with the Hackney Brewery, but none of their beers on tonight.

I came here with some friends, and we had a couple of pints each. I found the service to be a bit slow.

The pub is found in Islington, Central London, N1 8DE.

Located in Elia Street this is a street corner pub close to Angel tube station. Established in 1839 as the Prince Albert, the pub was renamed by the new owners in 2005 in honour of Charles Lamb, the late 18th/early 19th century English essayist who lived in nearby Colebrooke Row. Best known for his collected essays entitled 'Essays of Elia', published in 1823, he also provided the name for the road on which the pub stands ("Elia" being the pen-name Lamb used as a contributor to The London Magazine). Closed for a while and reopened with new name and operator November 2023.

We have visited this pub 6 times, seen 12 different beers and tried 5 of them.
