Hot Sunday afternoon. Another CAMRA heritage pub off my wish list. All customers sitting in the courtyard but I took a walk through the furthest bar area and a peek in the Parliament bar with its adjacent servery. The first floor gallery looking out onto the courtyard is impressive. Regular GK ales on as well as the two beers I noted.

Monday evening and relatively uncrowded. I even managed to get a table in what I consider to be the best bar – the first one on the right as you enter the courtyard.

Greene King - London Glory4.10AcceptableThis was not what I ordered. I asked for a pint of the Wold Top beer and my pint was pulled from that hand-pull, but it was clearly this beer that came out. Brown in colour and richly malty but with the characteristic GK yeast taste.

A wonderful pub to visit every now and again. I’d struggle to deal with this sort of crowding on a regular basis though.

Southwark - Gold5.20GoodFoaming from the pump to the extent that it was taken off sale. Worth persevering with though, as once settled it was a great, crisp, golden beer – possibly in the Blonde style.

Evening. A wallet emptying venue worthy of a very occasional visit - tourist trap. Hope the staff are on a lot more than minimum wage. The Gallery Bar upstairs was closed for the day. Lack of provenance of the house beer inevitably lead to me avoiding it.

Sambrook's - The George Inn Ale (house beer)4.00Not TriedMaybe the house beer is from Sambrook's as the pumpclip was china and in its size, shape and style

The pub is found in Southwark, Central London, SE1 1NH.

Formerly the George Inn this is a splendid, historic galleried pub off Borough High Street situated in its own yard, recently (2012) re-opened following renovations. It is the only surviving seventeenth century coaching inn in London. In fact, only one wing survives, but this is quite extensive and it is worth exploring the various rooms. Also has a large outdoor drinking area in the cobbled courtyard. Owned by the National Trust and leased to Greene King. It shares the courtyard with the separate Heeltap bar. There are several drinking areas including the upstairs Gallery Bar. 6 handpumps in the main bar, 3 in a smaller ground floor bar serving outside through a hatch and 2 in the upstairs Gallery Bar making 11 in total.

We have visited this pub 6 times, seen 19 different beers and tried 5 of them.
