Ian phoned Phil Lowry to find out if a pale beer coud be smokey. Apparently yes but most likely cause is a poorly cleaned kettle. Anyway that had nought to do with this pub which was friendly and modern-cool.

15:15 My first visit since the pub being taken over by Grain. I have always found this place to be rather soulless but the makeover has removed what little atmosphere it had. The bar has been moved to the right hand wall, is copper topped, sports six handpumps and has 10 taps for fancy fizz behind. The furniture is a rather uncomfortable mix of pews and hard wooden seats. Just two other customers went we went in.

17:10 The current landlady finishes this weekend. Mauldons have sold the lease to the owners of the Red Lion in Norwich so the beer range will change. There were only three beers on as stock was being run down.
