A bright sunny day so some of the customers were outside. This is a wonderfully unspoilt pub, a pity that it is somewhat difficult to get here by public transport.

Afternoon visit on an organised bus tour. Idyllic pub as so many were once and in a quite remote location, at least for public transport.
BeerABVScoreNotes

Banks's - Young's London Original (was Bitter) - previously brewed in Bedford and at Wychwood3.70Not TriedWhat a waste with so many local ales available

14:30 My previous visit had been for an evening meal and the pub was very busy. Today the diners had gone and the pub was nearly empty allowing me to appreciate what a unspoilt gem it is.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Ballards (now a sub-brand of Greyhound) - Kippered8.50GoodOnly a sample, but very reminiscent of Gales Prize Old Ale.
Bowman - Wallops Wood4.00AcceptableNot much condition. A regular problem with gravity beer unless the hard spile is in as much as possible.

The pub is found in Elsted, West Sussex, GU29 0JX.

Originally 4 cottages and later a two-roomed pub with adjoining butcher's shop in a circa 200 year old brick building. The beamed and quarry-tiled public bar on the right has half tongued and grooved panelling, an old bar counter and shelves for a bar back. The original saloon bar to the left, with ‘3’ on the door, has a brick floor, large stone and brick fireplace, old half panelled walls and wall benches on two sides. The original outside gents' and ladies' toilets are still in use. On the far right is the former butcher's shop still with meat hooks in the ceiling and a brick floor. The counter here is modern and there are 7 casks on gravity stillage behind it. On the far left, in a 20th-century brick extension, is a dining room brought into use in recent years which was originally two small rooms with fireplaces in both. Opposite the cricket ground.

We have visited this pub 4 times, seen 7 different beers and tried 4 of them.
