Early evening visit and there is a pleasant buzz of conversation in here. I sat admiring all the old tube train memorabilia and spotted for the first time the tube train upholstery on all the chairs.

Comfortably busy, early on a Friday evening.
BeerABVScoreNotes

Well-populated in the early evening, with a distinctly well-to-do sort of crowd. Throughout the hour I was here, the stereo was playing Neil Young – nobody seemed to be complaining.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Adnams - Pale Champion Ale3.40GoodRetro, pale ale with a solid malt base and ‘dusty’ English hops. A little sweet.
Everards (see entries against Joule's & Robinsons whilst its new brewery was being built) - Truman's Basking Shark3.70AcceptableI’m trying hard to like these Truman’s beers because it is great to see the name back on pumpclips and people say that the new brewery will be opening in east London soon – but the truth is I haven’t found one I like yet. This is golden and syrupy and buttery.

A welcome, calm respite, five minutes’ walk from the madhouse that is Ridley Road Market.

The pub is found in Dalston, Greater London, N16 8JT.

This pub was renovated and re-launched in 2011, and at the same time reverted to its proper name after a period as Old Henry's Freehouse. It is on St Jude Street and is absolutely not to be confused with another Railway Tavern just around the corner on Kingsland High Street. Potential confusion with two more Railway Taverns in Hackney is now avoided as both of those two have closed. Bare boards and wooden furniture; the decor now has a railway theme. Beer availability is indicated on an ‘Arrivals’ (i.e. in the cellar) and ‘Departures’ (i.e. available now) board.

We have visited this pub 5 times, seen 24 different beers and tried 7 of them.
