Decent beer in a decent and somewhat eccentric pub, wonderful. Customers are invited to light a candle in memory of the late David Bowie or you could go to another part of the pub and look at the 1960s Harrison Marks calendar pages.

Late afternoon and quiet. Quaint backstreet local in a villagey environment which seems miles away from the noise hubbub and bustle from nearby.

Making the most of the good weather, Robert and I met up for a couple of pints in the back garden before heading off to watch the football elsewhere. Unfortunately, I managed to pick two particularly bland beers.

The pub is found in Walthamstow, Greater London, E17 9LP.
This pub was almost certainly present by the sixteenth century, opposite the church at the heart of Walthamstow Village. By the 1850s it was in the ownership of Francis Wragg, who also ran a coach service from Walthamstow to London. In 1859, Wragg demolished the original inn and moved the licence to the present building where he was better able to combine his two businesses. By the late 1800s, beer was supplied by Huggins and Co. Brewery of Westminster, later passing to Watney’s. Today, there are pavement tables at the front, a front bar, a rear bar where Italian food is served and a pleasant back yard. The pub is ‘cat friendly’.
