The end of our little pub crawl and Dave left me here to dash off to Cambridge Heath station for the first leg of his journey home.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Redemption - Big Chief5.50ExcellentPowerful IPA.
Hackney - Red Ale4.10AcceptableIt’s a red Ale, and I don’t like Red Ales much – only ordered it to honour our quest today to find locally-brewed beers. Sweetish.
Redemption - Hopspur4.50Not Tried

Early evening visit and the pub is strangely deserted when we arrive. But as if by some secret signal, customers start pouring in from 6:30pm. Good to see two bottled beers available from the tiny in-house brewery.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Redemption - Trinity3.00ExcellentReliably excellent, pale, hoppy beer.
Sebright Home Brew - Vagabond Black Milk4.30ExcellentA bottled beer, brewed in the cellar with the assistance of the London Amateur Brewers, and featuring label artwork by the nearby Vagabond Tattoo Studio. It is a near-black, chocolaty, sweetish milk stout, with subtle coffee and nice vanilla flavours.

Crate - Golden Ale3.80Not Tried
Sebright Home Brew - Pure Evil8.00Not TriedBrewed in the cellar and available in bottle.

A special beer launched here tonight featuring a label designed by London artist ‘Pure Evil’. I am now the proud owner of an artist-autographed bottle – not quite sure what to do with it.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Redchurch - Pure Evil8.00ExceptionalA bottled beer, brewed by the Redchurch people on a tiny kit here at the Sebright Arms. It is a fabulous Black IPA, absolutely bursting with hoppy goodness.
East London (ELB) - Orchid Vanilla Mild3.60GoodDark, vanilla-flavoured beer. Quite sweet tonight, bordering on a milk stout taste.
Dark Star - Hophead (some has also been brewed by Fuller's)3.80Not Tried

Early-evening visit. I was early to meet friends at the Cock Tavern, so popped in here for twenty minutes or so. Already a large crowd in, with every seat taken.

Busy in the early evening. Mostly a ‘hipster’ crowd, tucking in to burgers and drinking classy bottled beers such as Brodie’s Big Mofo Stout.
BeerABVScoreNotes
East London (ELB) - Orchid Vanilla Mild3.60ExcellentA very dark, smooth mild with more than a hint of vanilla.

It is hard to believe this is a Monday night; the pub is absolutely jammed – and that’s before you even consider the full house crammed in to the back room for a ‘Meet the Brewer’ event with Jon and Pete from Hackney Brewery. Unfortunately, and despite the obvious enthusiasm of the people that run this place, none of the beer seems to be on great form (not helped by the free samples coming from jugs, having been pulled from the cask some time before).
BeerABVScoreNotes
Hackney - Liberty Ale4.00ExcellentIn bottle-conditioned format, and consequently in the best condition of the beers tried tonight. The official launch of this beer in fact. A pale “summer ale” with plenty of hops.
Hackney - Best Bitter4.40GoodBrown coloured, traditional best bitter.
London Fields - Wheat Beer4.70GoodOn keg dispense, nicely chilled and refreshing. A bit on the sweet side for the style.
Hackney - American Pale Ale4.50GoodThe brewers are keen to stress that this beer is in the American pale Ale style, as opposed to the American IPA style. The first thing to notice is that it is a darkish, chestnut colour – a shade darker in fact than the Best Bitter. The next brew will be paler, we are told. Richly malty with US hop notes.
Hackney - Golden Ale4.00AcceptableSuffered from being in rather flat condition.
Redchurch - Hackney Gold5.50AcceptableOn keg dispense and suffering from way to high a level of carbonation. A shame, because this murky, amber-coloured beer clearly contains some fine hops but the full flavour is not coming through.
East London (ELB) - Jamboree4.80Not Tried
Moncada - Notting Hill Amber4.90Not Tried

I went here with a few friends following a very enjoyable brewery visit to London Fields Brewery. Pub quite busy, but we managed to squeeze onto a table when some people left.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Redchurch - Great Eastern India Pale Ale7.40GoodServed on keg dispense. I’ve tried this strong, hoppy beer from the cask, from a bottle and now from a keg. This seems the weakest format, but it is still a formidable beer with a huge hop character.
Redchurch - Shoreditch Blonde4.50GoodServed on keg dispense. Although bottles of this beer weigh in at 6%, this keg version is indicated as being 4.5%. It is a very pale, cloudy, yeasty beer with a citrus hop tang and a little sweetness.
Moncada - Notting Hill Blonde (was 4.2%)4.30AcceptableThe correct spelling of this brewery’s name is Moncada. This was a rather thin, sweetish, golden beer with a hop oil taste. Just about acceptable, but not well-balanced and not helped by its lack of condition. Disappointing.
East London (ELB) - Foundation Bitter4.20Not Tried
London Fields - Hackney Hopster4.20Not Tried

The pub is found in Bethnal Green, Greater London, E2 9AG.

The Sebright Arms was present off Hackney Road by 1865 and by 1885 was associated with a large music hall. It was rebuilt in the 1930s as a more straightforward pub, but the tradition of live entertainment has been maintained to the present day. In the 1980s it was trading as Solly’s and the ‘entertainment’ at that time is remembered as being more than a little risqué, even my friend Arthur blushes at the memory. The pub closed in 2007, but after Tower Hamlets Council rejected a series of applications to demolish the pub and build flats on the site it unexpectedly re-opened in October 2011 as an independent bar and live venue. There is a large, comfortable, ground floor bar, with some wood panelling, a basement live music venue and a few outside tables in a side alley. A small basement in-house brewery is operational.

We have visited this pub 8 times, seen 29 different beers and tried 17 of them.
