We move here from the Cock Tavern as my mate Dave is fed up drinking cider and wants some “proper Bitter”. He’s not best pleased to find all three cask ales in here are pale, and orders a glass of wine. It is busy in here.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Froth Blowers - Gollop with Zest4.50GoodA middle-of-the–road Golden Ale.
Reunion - Monroe3.60Not Tried

Lunchtime visit, two other customers sooner joined by more. IMO this place has a continental feel to it which I liked.

Lunchtime visit, I have been here before but had failed to notice what is apparently the front entrance.

I’ve been asked to again contribute a Hackney pub crawl article for the Pig’s Ear Beer Festival programme and am doing some last-minute research. Pleasant and quite busy in here.
BeerABVScoreNotes
West Berkshire - Mister Swift's Pale Ale4.00AcceptableA golden beer that is very malt-oriented with little discernible hop content.
Sambrook's - Pumphouse Pale Ale4.20Not Tried
Big Penny (formerly Truman's) as of late 2022 contract brewed - Runner4.00Not Tried

This pub changed hands some months ago and I had heard that it was now featuring more in the way of locally-brewed beer (although I settle for an import). Quite quiet in the mid-evening, but a much more successful visit than the last time I was here.
BeerABVScoreNotes
RedWillow - Mirthless3.90ExcellentA tasty, hoppy, golden ale. Nelson Sauvin hop gives a citrusy, almost tart finish.
Windsor & Eton - Windsor Knot4.00Not Tried
Big Penny (formerly Truman's) as of late 2022 contract brewed - Runner4.00Not Tried

It’s quite a few years since I last ventured in here. I wish I hadn’t bothered.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Otter - Bitter3.60UndrinkableBasically this was a pint of vinegar. Complete incomprehension behind the bar when I tried to explain the problem – so I’m afraid that I walked out.
Fuller's (part of Asahi Europe) - London Pride4.10Not Tried
Jennings (since closure now brewed at Marston's) - Cumberland Ale4.00Not Tried

The pub is found in Hackney, Greater London, E8 1EN.

The Old Ship in Sylvester Path was present in Hackney by the early nineteenth century and was rebuilt in its present form in 1877. Usually entered via the long corridor from Mare Street, alongside the Hackney Empire, few ever notice the appealing Victorian frontage onto Sylvester Path. A Courage pub in its day; two tiled plaques remain to remind us of its former ownership. Hotel rooms available. The bar has been considerably smartened and offers a choice of comfy sofas or restaurant tables. Also a few pavement tables at the rear.

We have visited this pub 7 times, seen 18 different beers and tried 7 of them.
