Much extended since my last visit but oh dear, the commercial radio station being played on the television was awful, really awful but as I was typing this they changed it to a different station but I still decided to move on.

Late lunchtime - I don’t usually go for Sheps pubs but this intrigued me - looks like two completely different pubs next to each other from the outside. An extension from years ago according to the guv - making a long frontage with dining to one side and a more trad pub on the other. Not busy and a rather loud commercial radio channel being played on the TV. I didn’t stay long.

Afternoon visit. Busy. Attentive service.Reasonable prices compared with other pubs in town

Shepherd Neame - Master Brew Bitter3.70GoodHoppy and lacking the hefty dose of yeastiness that often blights this beer

I came in here after a fruitless 30 minutes at the bus stop outside. My glass was barely half empty when the Canterbury bus appeared, 45 minutes late. Luckily I still have a decent turn of speed when required.

Shepherd Neame - The Faversham Steam Brewery - Whitstable Bay Pale Ale3.90AcceptableVery much a Shepherd Neame taste, and none of the crispness or flavour I enjoyed in a pint of the same elsewhere a couple of weeks ago.

Jane and Isabel went off to look at a Christmas tree festival in a local church so I came to a church of beer. Nice. Welcoming and warm with some folk playing billiards.

Again busy with people who initially we thought were going to the wedding in the Fleur de Lis. Then, as more people arrived this time wearing black, we thought there was a funeral somewhere. Then we realised there was some private function in the town hall. What a socially busy place Sandwich is. Anyway, this is probably the best 'pub' in Sandwich I've been to as it had some atmosphere.

Very light interior and a man doing crab impressions between throwing beer mats at a cricket umpire who was sat at the bar

Large town centre pub with a central bar and a separate room with a pool table. Good juke box. Early Saturday evening and there were mostly locals in at the tables around the bar playing games with the beer mats. Nice building to have as a pub.

Shepherd Neame - Master Brew Bitter3.70AcceptableSheps yeast aroma. The toffee caramel in the mouth is a bit yucky but the hop finish is good.
