Lunchtime and surprisingly quiet. I was hoping for the Shepherd Neame monthly cask club ale here but there were just a few of the standards on.

Early evening, and nowhere near as crowded as this pub becomes later in the week. I went for a bottled beer as the price looked reasonable compared to the cask beers, only to be told when it came to time to pay that the prices advertised on the blackboard were ‘wrong’. I didn’t push the point that they can only expect me to pay the price that they are advertising.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Shepherd Neame - Double Stout (Bottled version)5.20GoodPoured from a bottle and more heavily-carbonated than I really like. A black, strong-tasting, dry Stout. Has more ummph than the cask version.

Although technically on holiday today, I have been in the office this-morning and then had some business in the City. Popped in here during pouring rain for a quick lunchtime half. The pub is quiet and it is nice to be able to have a proper look around.

It might be a Monday night (in fact it is), but this pub is uncomfortably crowded in the early evening. Always a delight to visit though, to see some of the preserved bar fittings.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Shepherd Neame - Christmas Ale5.00GoodAmber-coloured, with a hint of strength and more hops than you expect from SN. Not at all Christmassy – quite pleasant in fact.

The pub is found in City, Central London, EC3V 9DS.

Historic City pub in St Michael's Alley, that was established in around 1653 as the Pasqua Rosee’s Head, usually described as London’s first coffee house. The pub was rebuilt after the Great Fire of 1666 and was again badly damaged by a serious local fire in 1748. By 1674 it had been trading as the Jamaica Coffee House and the name was amended to Jamaica Wine House in 1869. The present red brick, sandstone and terracotta building was put up in 1885. The ground floor bar is divided into four compartments by three wood panels. There is also a basement bar and some limited outside seating. Formerly a free house, this pub was acquired by Shepherd Neame in April 2009.

We have visited this pub 4 times, seen 7 different beers and tried 4 of them.
