A hot day, I sat in the front area and chatted with a couple of locals. I was told that Wentwell are planning to open another micro-pub somewhere "on the top of Ashbourne Road".

13:20 Second stop on the micro-pub crawl. A local CAMRA member we met in Belper joined us on the bus and when we got to Derby showed us a short cut to the pub.

16:00 An excellent micro-pub. Good landlord. Their own beer and a loyalty scheme that gave us a free pint.

Just after 12:00 and I was the first customer, but others soon followed. I had a good chat with the chap behind the bar about micro-pubs.

Evening. Sometimes a hard lesson is learned - I had read in a web newspaper article that this pub had opened and was going to be open from 3 Mondays to Fridays and from noon on Saturdays and Sundays but alas is only open on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. At least I now know where to find the house. Looks good from the outside. For the avoidance of any doubt opening hours as at December 2012 are: Thursdays 3-10. Fridays, Saturdays & Sundays 12-10.

An web article in a local newspaper stated that this pub is open from 15:00 daily. In fact it is only open from Thursdays to Sundays, and this was a Monday. The pub was most definitely closed, but the door was unlocked so I managed to get in, and was welcomed by the landlord who took time to show me around his pub, and gave me a pack of three bottles of bottle conditioned ales for the train home. He also recommended that it would be worth my while waiting for the nearby Furnace to open at 16:00 which was very good advice.

The pub is found in Derby, Derbyshire, DE1 3SF.

Located in Chester Green Road right on its corner with Alfreton Road. This is a Micropub converted from a previous existence as a dry-cleaners. It opened in November 2012. It was initially owned and run by Walter who is Head Brewer at the Wentwell Brewery making this Micropub the Wentwell Brewery Tap. There is a small drinking area in the former shop, a bar counter with handpumps, and a corridor at the side which leads to a very small snug area, and the toilet. It is reckoned that the place could hold about 30 customers. 4 handpumps available. Originally opened by people associated with Wentwell Brewery but in late 2015 Hartshorn Brewery took over the running. In 2023, after a period of closure, taken over by the Mad Brewer Pub Company.

We have visited this pub 6 times, seen 11 different beers and tried 6 of them.
