Around 3pm on Sunday afternoon, and any thoughts of having lunch here are quickly abandoned on sight of the crowds present. Indeed the only opportunity to sit down is in the garden. The pub has had a major re-decoration since my last visit.

Late-lunchtime visit and the pub is packed, with many awaiting tables to become available for Sunday lunch. Not quite as posh as the Barge Inn, but I still felt a bit self-conscious, standing muddy and alone at the bar.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Adnams - Southwold Bitter3.70GoodThis pint had the slight whiff of sulphur that you still sometimes get on a fresh pint of Adnams.

The pub is found in Battlesbridge, Essex, SS11 7RJ.

An extensive, food-oriented village pub in Hawk Hill. Not all of it is as old as it looks, although there is an old pub at its heart which is believed to have been established in 1678. Low ceilinged, with wooden beams, some of which are genuine. Large garden. Next door to the railway station.

We have visited this pub twice, seen 5 different beers and tried 1 of them.
