Visits Details

16 Jul 2020 (Stephen Harris)
Mid-afternoon. Table service, with the outside area only in use. We are lucky that a table has just been vacated and we wait a while whilst it is scrubbed down for us. I did not note the full beer availability.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Three Sods - Maelstrom IPA5.30GoodAn earthy sort of IPA.
30 Jan 2020 (Stephen Harris)
An early arrival allows our group of three to bag one of the little inside tables.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Pomona Island - APA5.30ExcellentFrom key-keg. Lovely hoppy murk.
By The Horns - Old Smoke4.00ExcellentI had forgotten that this smoky beer is pale in colour, which challenges perceptions in the same way that the early Black IPAs did a few years ago.
Three Hills - Valkyrie - Kveik #15.00ExcellentFrom key-keg. A soft, hazy Pale.
Northern Whisper - Oppenchops4.00AcceptableA Golden Ale that is not too exciting. Predictably, Dave loved it and stayed with it all evening.
Hackney - Gravity Chasm4.50AcceptableFrom keg. A tasty Stout but served way fizzier than I like.
Oakham - Scarlet Macaw4.40Not Tried
Wild Beer Co. - MMXX4.10Not Tried

30 Mar 2019 (Wittenden)
Two visits:morning and early evening.Much keg was being consumed on my second appearance, when I was intrigued by the prospect of an elderly Ticker blocking the narrow bar whilst peering at the keg taps and rating three glasses of 'Grapefruit ale'.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Magic Rock - Dark Arts6.00ExcellentBlack:hedgerow fruit,coffee.Cracking.A fitting end to the day's festivities.
Reunion - Engage!3.70ExcellentDry and very bitter.A good start to the day's festivities.

18 Dec 2018 (Stephen Harris)
Mid-evening visit.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Hardywood Park - Christmas Morning9.20ExcellentFrom keg dispense. This is a version of the ginger and vanilla Imperial Stout that I drank yesterday; in this case the beer has been steeped over roasted coffee beans. Itís excellent, but I found it a bit too coffee-dominated and preferred the straight version.
Redemption - Legacy Oak4.70AcceptableI didnít really get on with this fruity Bitter. Probably because it came after a series of stronger, well-hopped and carbonated beers. Iím sure Iíd like it on another day.
Oakham - Scarlet Macaw4.40Not Tried
Adnams - Tally-Ho7.20Not Tried
06 Aug 2018 (Stephen Harris)

Early evening drink with Robert S. Morris dancers are performing in the covered market alongside and slaking their prodigious thirsts in here.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Thornbridge / Thornbridge Hall - Peverel4.50ExcellentA very pale, easing quaffing beer with lots of Mosaic hop.
Beatnikz Republic - Azacca Extra Pale4.40ExcellentA hazy Pale Ale with leafy hop flavours.
Burnt Mill - Steel-Cut Gluten Free Oat Pale Ale 4.20ExcellentThe only survivor from the previous nightís Tap Takeover by Burnt Mill. From key-keg. Great, fresh flavours.
Brew York - Triple H4.30AcceptableA murky amber brown colour. Well-hopped. I usually love this kind of thing, but this one didnít work for me today.

The pub is found in Southwark, Central London, SE1 9AG.

Small pub on the north side of Borough Market run by the same people who own the Utobeer bottled beer stall in the market itself. The bar has 3 hand pulls serving UK cask beers and 6 taps supplying continental and world beers. An extensive bottle beer selection is also available from the fridges behind the bar. The bar has stripped wood floors, pale beige walls and a historic Pilkington glass ceiling. A decked patio provides extra space and seating. Definitely an excellent addition to the Southwark beer scene.

We have visited this pub 150 times, seen 345 different beers and tried 248 of them.
