nice beer garden at the back, separate area for the foodies inside away from the bar area. Friendly staff. Dogs welcome. Liked it.

A good atmosphere and chatty landlord. Blues music was being played in the background.

Ah the Anchor; step back in time. Nice pub. Only pub in the day where I had a pint (if we ignore the half of old and half of lager in the Wetherspoons)

Six handpumps with six different Shepherd Neame beers. I came here looking for Old Faversham Gold and I found it.

Second pub of the day. Tony and I sat out the front on the benches and watched the local residents park their cars. The weather was superb and I could have sat there for much longer but we had other pubs to cover.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Shepherd Neame - Abbey Mild3.40GoodI'm guessing this was from their micro-kit. A brown mild that tasted of toffee-apples. Certainly above average for Sheps.
Shepherd Neame - Early Bird4.30AcceptableBeen wanting to have this all year but never seen it until now. It was okay but a bit soapy.

Friday the 12th’s Independent ran a supplement that contained Roger Rrotz’s top 25 pubs in the country. This was one of them and the only one in Kent. Well that’s a gauntlet if ever there was one. I came here fully expecting to disagree with old Roger but it turned out to be a gem. It was the kind of pub farm workers would have strolled into 200 years ago. Okay, the beer was Shep’s but it was good Shep’s. Would I have put this in my top 25 pubs in Britain? No. It would probably stuggle to get in my top 25 in Kent. However, it was still a cracking pub.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Shepherd Neame - Harvest Ale4.50GoodFawn brown coloured and soft in the mouth. I wouldn’t have picked this as a Shep’s beer which suggests to me it was brewed on their micro kit. The body was malty and the finish was astringent, tart and had an orange peel bite. £3.10 a pint was a bit steep I thought.

If I had to pick one pub in Faversham to return to, it would be this one. Maybe not the best Master Brew but still a 3.5/5. The location, building and overall atmosphere are excellent.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Shepherd Neame - Master Brew Bitter3.70GoodMaybe just behind the Mechanics Arms and Crown & Anchor for flavour. Yeast aroma was a little less stated but the hop finish is good and bitter.
