Late afternoon and quiet with only a couple of drinkers at the back of the pub enabled me to take unhindered photos. My first visit here impressed me how (dare I say it) this pub hasn't been wrecked and can only echo the previous reviews here. We sat in the right hand bar and soaked up the superb gloomy gothic atmosphere.

18:00 Long term item on my Heritage pubs to visit list. Impressed. The pub has been brought up to date in the facilities offered the modern clientele but has retained the historic features that make it worth adding to CAMRA's website. The right hand bar was busy but we had the left hand side to ourselves. The old associated off-licence on the left is looking a bit sad. Shame.

Evening. I should never have gone here but for Mr Harris's review on this site. Walked by it at first then back - looked closed, tried door and hey presto but it was soooooooo dark inside. An excellent find. Long chat with a Texan fellow from Houston about US gun control laws and UK new generation craft beers - not sure which is the greater threat to humanity.

Not a lot of walking involved tonight as this pub lies next door to my previous one and across the road from the station. Nice atmosphere here, with some excellent African music on the CD which took me back to my childhood.

The pub is found in Kennington, Greater London, SE11 4RS.

Long-established pub that had added ‘Old’ to its name by the 1880s. A big, solid, Brewers' Tudor place that is almost opposite Kennington tube station. Formerly tied to the Charrington’s Brewery of Mile End. Antic retained the three bar layout of this large pub, and there is also a back yard. The décor is not as ‘distressed’ as in some Antic houses, possibly because it felt the building was distressed enough as it was. Nooks and crannies everywhere to drink in. 4 handpumps for real ale on main bar counter and 2 for cider on the other counter. Portobello took over from Antic here in 2020.

We have visited this pub 4 times, seen 16 different beers and tried 6 of them.
