Lunchtime to exchange pressies with daughter and family. We had some superior snacks and were given Christmas crackers. Busy with diners but a very pleasant festive atmosphere and exceptionally pleasant, efficient staff.

Early evening - not been here for a good few years. The place has had a significant makeover and is much larger with an extension to the rear and the side from what I recall. The bar is now “midships” with the old front of house an eating area (as is most of the pub). Outside decking areas to the front and side. The inside and outside of the pub was resplendent in Christmas lights and decorations. Very friendly, pleasant young staff.

Fairly quiet on a warm June evening, the opening day of the World Cup.We came to celebrate everyone being in the same place.

The restorative effects of Jane Austen and good beer and food. Busy on a December Saturday lunchtime, intriguingly including a large party of babies.

Mid afternoon on a Saturday, and the customers were out in force, thankfully it was a nice sunny day and many people were sitting outside, leaving plenty of room for us non-smokers to enjoy the interior of this pub. Most of the customers were dining and the food looked very good, but we just had the beer.

Came for lunch. Sat in the back. Yes, the food is now quite expensive but the surf and turf was excellent as was the nachos for starter and the desserts are pretty good.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Hop Back - Summer Lightning5.00GoodYeah, pretty good, bit warm maybe, but the hops were good, they were decent pale malts and it was pretty drinkable.

Excellent freehouse on the North Downs Way in a small village. At one time an early community owned venture. Changed hands in 2021 and re-opened 29th May 2021 after an extensive internal gutting and refurbishment, after which facilities and beer range will change. See the glorious Mackesons Hythe Ales front fascia signage.

We have visited this pub 19 times, seen 30 different beers and tried 19 of them.
