Opening time on the first day of the annual Roger Marples Beer Festival, a few teething troubles but a really nice atmosphere and some excellent beef rolls. A lot of familiar faces in here by the time I left.

Saturday afternoon on a glorious sunny day. The beer festival seemed very popular and beers were starting to run out. The Harvey's Sussex Bitter was the first to go.

First day of the Roger Marples beer festival - in memory of the man. Early evening - plenty of drinkers enjoying the ambience - rather chilly on the flimsily clad "front porch" where the racked ales are being kept. But good friendly service and at £2.50 a pint for all beers this should go well over the weekend.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Goody Ales - Bleangate Brewery - Good Lord5.00ExcellentSponsored by our very own ChrisE - nice choice - I'm not a dark man usually but had to try this - a great body and a taste like an old ash tray - in a good way!
Caveman (latterly a cuckoo at Leatherbritches) - Palaeolithic3.80ExcellentI really liked this - great body and hoppy flavour for the ABV.
Westerham - Spirit of Kent XXX Pale Ale4.00GoodTasting notes said lemon balm, honey and blackcurrant - sounded like a cold cure - but tasted like a good beer with fruity notes.

2nd day of The Roger Marples Beer Festival held to celebrate the life of a local CAMRA founding father and bar steward / Secretary at the Club who passed away last year. 21 beers and 3 ciders - most on gravity in an outside marquee attached to the bar. An oak bench has been commissioned for outside veranda use simply plaqued "Roger A. Marples English Gentleman". The spicy pickled eggs were of an especially tummy warming recipe.
