Opening time at 12:00, unfortunately the beer ran out before my pint could be filled. Well worth the visit though as I was made very welcome and given access to the historic "buffet bar" which is not in every day use.

Large pub in Hylton Road close to Millfield station on the Tyne and Wear Metro system. It was built around 1901 and is listed in part two of CAMRA's National Inventory of historic pub interiors. The spectacular tiled Buffet Bar with ceramic work by Craven Dunhill is in use (in recent years it has been closed to the public) and hosts the ‘Purple Lily Bistro’ offering award winning bistro style food.
