Early afternoon on a mild post Christmas Saturday.Pleasantly busy with drinkers and lunchers. We spoke with an American lady who was pleasantly surprised that dogs were made welcome.Apparently this custom does not apply in the US of A.

This pub is now run by Jeffrey Bell aka Stonch,the original(?)beer blogger.Busy on a cloudy March Saturday lunchtime.A bit different from the last time I visited in the 80s,when there was a grumpy landlord and a parrot.

The pub is found in Rye, East Sussex, TN31 7HH.

Found near the battlements facing out to sea this is a pretty little pub. Known locally as "The Wipers". Atmospheric location particularly at night. One large bar with facilities for dining towards the rear. Long associated with Whitbread being on one of its famous aluminium inn signs cards and once displayed the various inn signs maps on the wall. Has 6 handpumps on the bar counter. Regular live music played here. Outside drinking areas including some on the ramparts out the front.

We have visited this pub 15 times, seen 38 different beers and tried 20 of them.
