Last pub on my first night in Newcastle, popped in for one, but when I saw that Straffe Hendrik blond was on tap, I had to have a half, even at £4.20 a pint. Studenty feel with a good selection of continental beers in bottle and on tap. Downstairs is some kind of comedy/music joint.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Phoenix - White Monk4.50ExcellentOne of the better beers of the night. Good wheat/slightly soapy hops. Good citrus hops. Good beer.

Walked in off the street and went downstairs. The door at the bottom was locked although 2 old fellows were clearly inside sitting by a bar drinking. Went upstairs and found the bar open. It was fairly small and quite busy but Charlie and I managed to get a seat. Never did figure out how you get downstairs.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Jarrow - Rivet Catcher4.00ExceptionalGolden beer with excellent earthy and grapefuity hops. Good underlying malt.

The pub is found in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Tyne and Wear, NE1 5EN.

Loacated pretty much opposite Newcastle railway station in Neville Street. Coming off the street you are confronted by a staircase going up and down. The walls are covered in multicoloured posters for various local bands and acts. The bar upstairs is reasonably small and Q-shaped with a small, 3-sided bar. Head of Steam Group owned until subsequently purchased by Camerons Brewery in December 2013.

We have visited this pub 5 times, seen 15 different beers and tried 9 of them.
