Quiet Wednesday afternoon. A number of beers available but none that could be described as traditional copper bitters. 2 dark and 5 or 6 pale ales.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Great Heck - Treasure IPA4.80GoodWell kept as you expect at this pub. Clear, nice head, bit too citrus and scored accordingly

Evening. Had been given first rate directions to this pub by a fellow in Post Office Vaults. A superbly renovated old Brum pub. A pork pie and English mustard went down a treat.

We spotted this pub out of the train window and convened here for a few beers in the early evening before the onward train to London. I like the traditional feel, with multiple rooms and outside gents’ toilets.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Ossett - Dana4.00ExcellentPale gold. Dry. Tasty hops.
Castle Rock - Su Pollard Nottinghamian Celebration Ale4.20GoodDark brown. Intensely caramel-flavoured. Probably a Porter I think. A bit of a shock after a day of hoppy beers. But good.
Mallinsons - Booom!4.30AcceptableThis beer had a nasty niff and an odd taste that was not greatly to my liking. Funny hops I think. Pale gold, discordant ingredients.

13:10 I had not been here for many years and having heard good reports about the restoration came here after a railway engineering diversion gadabout. Welcoming, friendly and busy. Highly recommended.

The pub is found in Birmingham, West Midlands, B5 5LG.

Re-opened in September 2013 after suffering much vandalism. Lovingly restored and deservedly a CAMRA Heritage pub. There are four rooms one with hatch service. The pub is operated by the same people as the Post Office Vaults. The pub is opposite the former very impressive entrance to Curzon Street railway station. 10 handpumps. Closed on Saturday 13th August 2022 with some regrets after 9 years running the place having rescued it from dilapidation. Future uncertain.

We have visited this pub 4 times, seen 20 different beers and tried 8 of them.
