Lively mid afternoon. Also had on Belvedere Bitter at 3.8% as a house beer but no idea who brewed it.

When I had been here the previous day, there were a couple of Thornbridge beers due on, so I came in to see if they were on and was very pleased to find yet another Liverpool Organic Brewery beer on.

| Liverpool Organic - William Roscoe | 4.30 | | Gold, English hop and yeasty aroma. Bit of rose petal on the fruits. Quite delicate compared with the other 3 L.O.B. beers I had this weekend. OK golden ale. Hops are a bit muted on finish. |

Back to it's previous best. Beers coming on advertised on a chalk board were from Liverpool Organic, Brew Dog and Thornbridge. Several locals in as well as people from the Philharmonic Hall.

First pub on my Friday pub crawl. Only a couple of locals in talking about broadband. Still a good pub.

| Higson's - Stout | 4.50 | | Very dark brown with thick dark beige head. Very decent stout. Good thickness in the mouth. Lovely choc, bit of charcoal, but that’s a very good stout, good intensity, lovely grainy choc. Both Higson’s beers have been tasty. This is enormously drinkable. |
| Bridge of Allan - Spring Mist | 4.00 | | First beer of day 2 of my weekend in Liverpool and not a very promising start. Copper colour, thin off white head. Some fruit, some diacetyl, syrupy in mouth, some hop on end. Not my kind of beer. Some spice in there perhaps. Spice and butter. Nasty. If it wasn’t for The Kinks best of, in the background, I would have left. Oh and the Higson’s Stout which was next. |

Even after just 2 visits, this is quickly becoming a firm favourite with me. A real fire, cocker spaniel dog to keep me company and 4 excellent beers in good condition.

| Higson's - Bitter | 4.10 | | For anyone who has spent any time in Liverpool, the return of Higson’s does send a little thrill of excitement through you, purely for the historical factor. This beer is gold in colour with a thick beige head. Wow, what a nice bitter. Properly bitter on the finish. Easy drinking sessioning type beer. Attractive leafy green hop aroma, lively condition in the mouth, touch of sulphury yeasty falvour in mouth and then this hoppy bite. Excellent. Not sure if it is anything like the original, but this is a good start. |
| Cotswold Spring - Christmas Old Ale | 5.00 | | Very very dark brown, thick beige head. Thick, dark, slightly sour and entirely wonderful. A bit bready maybe. Some liquorice, some dry malt. Interesting, proper old ale. Some sting on finish. That hollow, sour flavour is wonderful. Great condition. Perfect for a windy Liverpool winter’s day. Very wide mouthfeel and a gingerish side to the hop. Entirely wonderful. |

I had a wonderful time here talking with the manager of the pub about keeping the beers, which beers he gets in and how the pub is doing in general. Very friendly place and I would recommend this pub to anyone in the area.

| Thornbridge / Thornbridge Hall - Ramberg | 3.50 | | Attractive red/amber red ale. Good red fruit malty aroma. Very good hop as well. Amazing amount of flavour for such a low ABV. A bit like raspberry ripple / vanilla ice cream. Balanced by good hops on end. Another great Thornbridge Hall beer. |
| Highgate - Irish Whiskey Ale | 4.60 | | Copper colour with thick lasting cream head. Smooth caramel, some rounded fruit. Bit buttery maybe. Not sure I can pick up too much whiskey. Some candy sugar I suppose. Some dryness on end. |

The pub is found in Liverpool, Merseyside, L7 7EB.
Grade II listed pub and a sister enterprise of The Blackburne Arms Hotel in the Georgian area of the city. Curved wooden bar has 4 handpulls and continental beers on tap as well as in bottle. Maredsous Blond and Konig Ludwig Weiss in particular are of note. A wooden screen separates the Smoking Room with a hatch for your orders. Real fires in both bars with etched glass and tiled floors. Local landscapes for sale are on the walls in the Smoking Room. Wood smoked Italian pizzas and the pies are specialities.
