A friend of mine wanted to be shown some of the pubs around here that I did a few weeks ago, so suitably full of bubble and squeak from Maria's Borough Market Cafe we started here around mid-day. Much busier than at this time on a weekday with racing on the television and a good crowd of regulars in both bars.

Noon and I was the only customer, the place was soon invaded by the rest of the group that I had arranged to meet for a tour of South East London pubs.

Evening visit. A solid traditional pub with standards, always a tad difficult to find even when one knows where it is!

A visit here is actually Plan D, having rejected two pubs for being too crowded and then finding the Charles Dickens still closed. Always nice to come here though.

I pride myself on knowing my way around inner London. But Clennan Street is not one of the main thoroughfares of our great City, and even I have to stop and think about how to find this pub. Very pleasant as always, although a while since my last visit.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Eagle (formerly Wells & Young's, formerly Charles Wells, formerly Wells) - Wells Try Time3.60Acceptable‘Well-rounded and Hoppy’, says the pump clip. Charles Wells must have a different definition than mine of ‘hoppy’. The word I’d use here is ‘malty’.

13:00 3rd stop and once again a re-visit. Not too busy. We sat in the rear room with the serving hatch. Our chosen beer went towards the end of our round. The cask was changed, my beer was brought to the table and last pint out was taken away and replaced at the barman's suggestion. Excellent service.
