Late afternoon and the pub is busy. Visitors are being ‘encouraged’ to use the overflow marquee at the back, but we take over the middle room on the left hand side and soak up the atmosphere.

This pub is legendary. I expected a lot. I was disappointed. The pub interior was outstanding but the atmosphere was not really that pleasant. Also, the beers wasn't up to much!
BeerABVScoreNotes
Blue Anchor - Spingo Jubilee IPA4.50AcceptableCloudy and acidic. It was touch and go whether I gave this a 2 out of 5 but the acidity matched that of the 'Middle' so I'll be charitable and say it was apple-y rather than off. Pale gold in colour.
Blue Anchor - Spingo Middle5.10AcceptableDark brown beer with an initial rich malt flavour and an apple-y body and apple finish. Jane liked it but I didn't think it was up to much.
Blue Anchor - Spingo Special6.60Not TriedGiven its price of £3.20 a pint Jane pointed out that it would have to be 'special' to warrent buying some. Given the quality of the other 2 beers I took a guess that my money would be better spent elsewhere and didn't try it.
