Exceptionally busy throughout this large pub. Not for the first time I am served a short pint and not for the first time it is in less than perfect condition – I’m beginning to think that it is more than a coincidence that this keeps happening.

Big Penny (formerly Truman's) as of late 2022 contract brewed - Zephyr4.40AcceptableServed a bit warm and this seems to emphasise the beer’s bitterness.

The fact that it is mid-evening on a drizzly February Monday does not stop this large pub from being standing room-only busy. Expensive here.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Hackney - Golden Ale4.00PoorI can’t put my finger on what it is, but something is dreadfully wrong with this pint.

Not as crowded as on my last visit, but still amazingly busy given that it is Monday evening.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Big Penny (formerly Truman's) as of late 2022 contract brewed - Bold as Brass4.20AcceptableA rather ordinary Bitter.
London Fields - Harvest Ale 20145.00AcceptableThis beer is evidence, to my mind, that not all Green Hop beers really work out.

I’ve not been in here for a few years and seem to remember being the only customer on my previous visit. Tonight it is packed; amazingly busy for mid-evening on a Tuesday. And I discover that the pub is around five times bigger than I had realised, with a back room, a busy outside yard beyond, and dining rooms in the old stables across the yard.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Dark Star - Revelation5.70AcceptableNot in prime condition and a bit too warm to fully appreciate the flavours that I know this beer has.
Sharp's - Doom Bar4.00Not Tried
Hackney - American Pale Ale4.50Not TriedI did not spot this on sale until after I had ordered something else.
Big Penny (formerly Truman's) as of late 2022 contract brewed - Tail Feather3.50Not TriedRan out whilst I was queing to be served.

The pub is found in Spitalfields, Central London, E1 6BX.

The Water Poet in the heart of Spitalfields, is a thriving pub, and you can understand why. Clean and tidy inside, even though it has some heavy contrasts such as a very large step on weighing scales, and two pool tables. A very good selection of real ales was on sale. I would have liked to have had time to explore the many rooms, but it was not to be. Closed permanently at end of March 2019 for redevelopment of the area.

We have visited this pub 6 times, seen 13 different beers and tried 7 of them.
