Early Friday evening. The sun is shining and there are a lot of people sitting outside by the canal. I noticed that many of them had brought their own canned beer with them rather than buying from the pub.

Early lunchtime and there is the usual collection of odd-ball locals and passers-by in here. Just as I am leaving my old friend George arrives on his bicycle – I had forgotten that he comes here on a Sunday afternoon and has done so for many years.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Fuller's (part of Asahi Europe) - Quintessential British Pale Ale3.80AcceptableStandard low-strength Bitter. Does the job that Chiswick Bitter should be doing on a Fullers bar.

Fuller's (part of Asahi Europe) - Front Row3.70Not Tried

Sunday afternoon refreshment stop after a long walk. It is a dull day and the crowds which sometimes descend on this pub are absent. What it lacks in numbers it more than makes up for in the proportion that are local characters and their canine companions.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Fuller's (part of Asahi Europe) - Two Halves3.50GoodA lightweight, golden beer with hoppy flavours and biscuit malt.
Fuller's (part of Asahi Europe) - London Pride4.10Not Tried

The pub is found in Clapton, Greater London, E5 9HG.

A much-loved canal-side pub in Clapton. Best approached along the tow-path from either Lea Bridge Road or Tottenham Lock. The pub was present by 1851 and was a Charrington’s house, until sold to Fuller’s in 1974. It is now the sole survivor of a little cluster of pubs here, around a former ferry crossing. It is best-known for the story of Les Heath, the former guv’nor. Les arrived here in 1953 and did not take a single day-off from serving in the pub until his death in 2003 – including rushing back to be behind the bar after receiving an MBE in 1997 for services to the pub trade. The pub has not been much touched by the Fuller’s corporate image, and the one concession to modernity in recent years has been the addition of a fridge to cool the bottled drinks. Two little bars and some canal-side tables.

We have visited this pub 4 times, seen 9 different beers and tried 3 of them.
