Friendly and welcoming and fairly busy for this popular pub. The barmaid tipped us off that half a banquet of food was up for grabs from an earlier funeral wake which was gratefully received by us.

Shepherd Neame - Spitfire (or Spitfire Amber Ale)4.20ExcellentUnexpectedly excellent a justified 4.5 should this option be available on this site.

The Parkerville was closed, as was The Pub and the Barrel. I think it has changed hands since I was last in. Only one beer on, and three customers. The woman serving was friendly.

Shepherd Neame - Spitfire (or Spitfire Amber Ale)4.20ExcellentNot a beer I usually go for, but it was really good.

BeerABVScoreNotes
Shepherd Neame - Late Red4.50GoodA good pint of late red, the only Shep's beer I partake in, around autumn time.

Here with Ian. It was busy with people watching the Chelsea game. We found a couple of stalls at the back

Splendid pub. Not busy in the early afternoon, with most customers outside smoking and loud horse racing on the TV.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Shepherd Neame - India Pale Ale4.50AcceptableA bit of an oddity, as this is neither an East Anglia IPA (as typified by Greene King IPA), nor is it a full-blown, strong, hoppy, throat-burner of an IPA. Amber coloured, lacking body, green apple tastes.

12:30 visit. Came to sunny Herne Bay for the annual Bus running day which was very well attended. Not been back this way for some years and this pub stands out, architectually and interior wise, as one of finest examples of it's type that I've seen in Kent. A real "gem", certainly the best pub in the area.

Guest beers are available at this Shepherd Neame pub at the moment, including Oakham JHB which was about ok. However the Bishops Finger was excellent,as Martyn from Herne agreed!!!Although not to my mind a £3.30 beer.

Another Saturday, another trip to the Bay. Chelsea where playing Coventry on the TV and a good number of people were in watching. Sheps are holding a beer festival at the moment and according to the literature in the pub this consisted of JHB, Elgoods Black Dog and Woodford's Nelson's Revenge. There's something a bit odd with going into a Shep's pub and seeing other beers. It's good really but I just felt it wouldn't be right not to have Masterbrew (although I'd have had Early Bird if it were on). I like this pub. The interior is outstanding.

The pub is found in Herne Bay, Kent, CT6 5DS.

Large 2 bar corner pub in Mortimer Street. The interior is very attractive with an assortment of sofas, chairs and bar stools. The Prince of Wales is a Victorian jewel of a pub in central Herne Bay, reflecting the Victorian heyday of this small seaside town. The current licensee has lovingly restored the pub to its original glory winning an English heritage/CAMRA design award. Original features have been retained where possible, such as the tiled Victorian fireplaces with marble mantelpieces and etched glass. The look is complete down to aspidistras on jardinières and a collection of antique water jugs.

We have visited this pub 28 times, seen 18 different beers and tried 14 of them.
