Evening visit until 11pm close. A good crowd in, all deep in conversation, pity any need for recorded music to be played.

Early afternoon and a magnificent exterior, although the interior now bears little resemblance to the pictures currently on this site. Three real ales on sale, two from Oakham and the one that I tried from Hackney and an interesting food menu. I was tempted to try the home-made chicken chili tikka masala pie and chips but will save that for another day. The music was a bit too loud for one of our group.

14:30 I have been drinking in the pubs along and to the side of Borough High Street since the early Seventies but was unaware of this place until I read a piece in last week's Spectator by Peter Oborne bemoaning the planned fate for this archetypal London boozer. Having seen my son off at the airport I came straight here. Had the inside to my self with a couple outside. A lovely little pub. It is a great shame that given the number of closed pubs in London the developers have set their sights on a thriving local.

The pub is found in Borough, Central London, SE1 1QN.

1930s pub tucked down a side street near Borough tube station, also known as The Glad. One room downstairs, an upper lounge and a roof terrace. Bare boards and an eclectic mix of furniture in the downstairs bar. A row of seats on the pavement caters for outside drinkers. Noted for live music venue. Sadly the pub has been under threat of demolition and was destined to be replaced by a block of flats with a retail space on the ground floor. After a period of closure in 2016 reopened in April 2017 with new tenants. 3 handpumps.

We have visited this pub 5 times, seen 12 different beers and tried 6 of them.
