I popped in for a light lunch and a pint. Unusually quiet today, probably something to do with the weather and the start of school holidays.

I may have come here when it was called the Chimney Boy but I can't honestly recall visiting this pub before. This was an early afternoon/lunchtime visit and this pub has a good reputation for food so not surprisingly there were a fair number of diners present but a good wet trade as well. Good bar staff made this a pleasant visit.

Evening. Major refurbishment and transformation internally and the paint and varnish smells still permeate the soul. Was intrigued to see what craft ales they were selling from the "Southampton Arms, Kentish Town" style white tiled area of 7 keg taps but it was just Strongbow Cider, Oranjeboom lager and Asahi beer from what I could see. No American influenced extreme taste IPAs or speciality beers at all then! Despite all this I encountered very friendly bar staff and atmosphere on a brief stay.

Evening. A thriving local tonight hosting both a darts match and a live Irish folk band at either end of the floor. Varied instruments included mandolin, fiddles, guitars, flutes, accordion, concertina and a hand held Irish drum.

Friend of my dads was playing in here so dropped in for a couple to show our support. Packed pub with a real mix of clientele, with a smattering of unsavoury characters.

Martin and myself had 20 minutes before the next train to Canterbury, so we popped in for one as I had never been in the pub before, but knew it was in the Good Beer Guide. Decent boozer that had the rugby on mid Saturday afternoon.

Shepherd Neame pub on Preston Street, just down from the railway station. Much larger inside than the frontage would imply. Curved bar is in front of you as you enter, but there is a restaurant and rear bar too as you walk through. Upstairs function room. Sports are on large screens with events advertised. Other events include live music and darts teams. Collection of hanging chamber pots (both large and small) adorn the tops of the windows. 4 handpumps in 2 sets of 2. Updated April 2014: the pub was significantly updated over the 2013/4 Winter and has been painted grey outside whilst inside has taken a pastel shaded theme with a contrast of light green / blue and dark green walls. A bank of 4 raised handpumps is installed on a highish bar counter. The main front room has a mixture of high and low tables and chairs and a more comfortable rear area has some upholstered bench seats. A large open fireplace dominates the northern end of the main bar floor. The signage outside the pub offers craft beers and these are supplied through a bank of 7 keg taps on the back wall of the bar fitted on to a rustic style white wall tiled feature. The chamberpot display would appear to have evapourated. Renamed in May 2015 to The Limes.

We have visited this pub 8 times, seen 13 different beers and tried 5 of them.
