Quieter than expected for a mid evening just a few groups dotted about in this dimly lit cavernous subterranean gem. The flickering flames from the oil lamps adorning each table made for a delightfully macabre gothic atmosphere...
BeerABVScoreNotes
Five Points - Railway Porter4.80ExceptionalFreshly scraped off the nearby roadworks this syrup of bitumen and molasses created a complex flavour feast with a bitter lingering burnt coffee hit, a tinge of blackcurrant with a beefy oxo finish - a perfect end to today's proceedings..

Early evening not too busy so we occupied a larger table than needed and enjoyed the refreshing coolness afforded by this venue.

Sunday until 7pm closing. The seating here is much more comfortable than on my previous visits, the rest of our group of five got stuck in to the so called Craft beers, I stuck to traditional cask.

Leyton Orient have been drawn at Maidstone in the FA Cup (it doesn’t go well) and I needed little persuasion that this was the place where we should spend the pre-match session. A very nice bar and handy for Maidstone West station.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Cellar Head - Single Hop Pioneer4.60ExcellentGolden and full-flavoured, although it fell a little flat after a while.
Brew York - Goose Willis5.30ExcellentFrom keg, but widely recommended by others present. This one is proper sour. Gooseberry.
Bristol Beer Factory - Sugar Plum Shake (collaboration with Tiny Rebel)5.00GoodCloudy gold. Sweet fruit and a bitter finish.
Titanic - Plum Porter4.90Not TriedIt is not every day that one is faced with a choice of plum beers in a pub.

I bumped into a friend at Maidstone West station and he suggested going here for a pre-match pint. A nice bar. With Leyton Orient playing football in Maidstone this-evening, I guess it was inevitable that I would know most of the customers here.

Early afternoon and a couple of others in, soon joined by a half a dozen or so of our Friday Evening Group before heading off to the Rifle Volunteer. My first visit here and I liked the quaintness of the place.

Tuesday afternoon and at first I was the only customer but was joined by another soon afterwards. I had a good chat with the barman and enjoyed a BLT sandwich for just £2.50 My only complaint about this place is the uncomfortable stools.

Went here after a Maidstone United game. None of the taxi drivers at Maidstone East station knew where it was even though we had the address! We walked back to the station....Very quiet on a Saturday tea time

A very wet Friday afternoon and quite an effort to get here with having to wade through flooded subways, understandably the pub was quiet this afternoon. Well worth the effort of getting here.

The pub is found in Maidstone, Kent, ME16 0DZ.

A new family run alehouse (set up to follow the style of a Micropub) which opened on Friday 18th December 2015 in the cellars of the old Style & Winch Brewery in Buckland Road. Entrance is down steps from the old brewery yard and the pub occupies a large stone floored, low-arched ceilinged cellar. Seating is on benches with high wooden tables. The bar counter is in the far corner and behind it is a glazed door leading to a temperature controlled cellar room where cask ales and ciders / perries are served on gravity dispense. Changed hands in May 2019.

We have visited this pub 16 times, seen 61 different beers and tried 30 of them.
