News has reached me that the old Granada Cinema is to reopen later this year (hooray) but that means this pub will inevitably close (boo). I feel that I ought to pop in.

It seemed very quiet in here in the early evening and it was only when I was leaving that I realised there were a lot of people in the garden. I get the feeling that cask beer is a bit of a side-line at this pub.

Early evening and I met up with a couple of friends here after work. Surprisingly, we seemed to be almost the only customers.

Here for the East London & City CAMRA Pub of the Year presentation. A good evening all round, and pleased to discover that a CAMRA discount is now available here.

Quite busy in mid-evening – the big draw seems to be the ground floor cocktail bar. Dave receives a flurry of texts asking about his whereabouts and referring to the advanced state of preparedness of his dinner – so we call it a day.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Rooster's - Roots. Rock. Reggae.6.40ExcellentStrong, pale, citrusy IPA. Dominated, I thought, by pineapple tastes. I like this sort of thing, lots of people don’t.

I have business this evening in the ‘Stow and there is just time for a swift early evening pint in here. A little garden area has opened in a yard to the side of the building.

Evening. A must see after Stephen Harris's glowing report. Lots to explore, the friendly customers jostled side by side to be served at the small bar counter. I did see too many short measures of cask beer sold but never on fizz beers - staff training?? Always amazed to see kiddies' pop cans, 330ml of craft fizz beer being sold for upwards of £4.

Words cannot describe what a lovely pub this is. A nice new touch is that films are being projected on to the white wall above the entrance. Tonight it was a black and white, pre-spaghetti era western starring John Wayne.
BeerABVScoreNotes
TicketyBrew - Session IPA3.50ExcellentGolden and yummy. Tastes of apricots and citrus fruits, as it says on the label.
Bad Seed - Salted Smoked Maple Ale4.30AcceptableAmber/orange in colour and cloudy (unfiltered and unfined). A rather brave mix of flavours which overall was too sweet for me.

The pub is found in Walthamstow, Greater London, E17 4QH.

A new pub opened in December 2015 in the historic, Grade II-listed former Granada Cinema in Hoe Street, Walthamstow town centre. The premises had lain empty for several years and there had been several controversial redevelopment plans. The pub is vast and on three open-plan levels; yet this is in fact just the entrance foyer of the former cinema. Plans for usage of the rest of the building are still under consideration. The bar space features chandeliers and neo-classical pillars. Black and white films are projected, without sound, high up on the foyer wall. The bar counter with real ale is located down several steps at the back and is equipped with 6 handpumps. Local CAMRA branch Pub of the Year 2017. Closed January 2020 for redevelopment.

We have visited this pub 10 times, seen 28 different beers and tried 13 of them.
