Late evening visit when pub is quiet.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Signature Brew - Backstage IPA5.60ExcellentIPA in great condition tonight. Tropical fruit, pine and sticky orange.

I watched the second half of the Spurs v Barca match in here on the TV. I don’t watch much televised football, but enjoyed what I saw of this game. Notable that the majority of customers were cheering for the Catalans, not the north Londoners.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Three Sods - Session IPA4.40ExcellentPale gold and hazy. Crisp and light, with good hop character. Nothing like the pint of the same name that I drank here recently – I wonder what that one was.

A flying visit, just to catch the last ten minutes of the Liverpool v PSG match here on TV. A good crowd in to watch it.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Three Sods - Session IPA4.40GoodGolden and more malty than I had remembered it.

A comfort break stop on the way home that developed into a couple of pints. Pub surprisingly busy at 10:30pm. No escaping the conclusion that there was a much better atmosphere and tastier beer here than at two City pubs visited earlier.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Signature Brew - Solo: Hallertau Blanc5.00Excellent- A really good showcase for this relatively subtle and unchallenging hop variety.

Fairly late in the evening for a quick one.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Signature Brew - Solo: Azacca5.00ExcellentA golden, single hop beer. Perfect condition really emphasises the hop character.

I had decided to eat here and discovered that Sunday evening is the one session of the week when the kitchen is closed. Probably explains why it is my favourite time to come here – quiet and peaceful.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Signature Brew - Solo: Azacca5.00GoodClear gold in colour. Good hop flavours but spoiled a bit by warm temperature.
Titanic - Plum Porter4.90Not Tried
15 Jul 2018 (Stephen Harris)
Late evening visit. Pub quiet.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Titanic - Plum Porter4.90ExcellentFaultless.
Truman's - Scorcher4.20AcceptableGolden in colour and supposedly a ‘grapefruit edition’, although challenging hop flavours are a bit difficult to spot.
26 Jun 2018 (Stephen Harris)
Late-evening visit on the way home from a day in Brussels.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Truman's - Two Halves4.20ExcellentA really nice, fruity, golden, Session IPA. Probably contains Truman’s entire hop budget for the summer of 2018.
Truman's - Zephyr4.40AcceptableTasted a little bit rough tonight.
East London (ELB) - Pale Ale4.00Not Tried
23 Jun 2018 (Stephen Harris)
Pit-stop visit at the end of a long weekend. Staff now give me a CAMRA discount here unprompted.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Truman's - Zephyr4.40ExcellentA big smack of hops. Still Truman’s best beer in my opinion.

The pub is found in Leyton, Greater London, E15 2BX.

This pub was established in 1887 as the King Harold, replacing the former Grenadier, which had stood further north in Leyton. It was a Savill Brothers pub (the local brewery at the time), eventually passing to Charrington’s. By the turn of the twenty-first century this pub had acquired an exceedingly seedy reputation. To nobody’s surprise, it eventually closed in 2015, but re-opened in July 2016 as the Leyton Star, much refurbished and beautified. It occupies a street corner position, close to Leyton tube station. A large single bar with an upstairs function room (formerly used as a gym). Rear garden. Four handpumps on the bar. CAMRA discount available.

We have visited this pub 56 times, seen 66 different beers and tried 44 of them.
