My long overdue re-visit to this much celebrated venue, not as busy as expected for a late Saturday evening to last orders with a couple of tables free and the rear bar empty. No open windows to allow fresh air to circulate made for a rather stuffy and uncomfortable hermetic atmosphere.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Twisted Barrel - Rookie4.00ExcellentFull bodied spicy peppery and tropical notes served refreshingly cool to alleviate the tropics.
Brew York - Tonkoko4.30GoodToasted coconut, vanilla and chocolate silky smooth nectar. £5.10pp for the thrifty minded..
Lunebrew - LB501 Session IPA4.60GoodHazy with a soft mouth feel and low bitterness

Busy footfall for this Friday evening with many a Friday regular in plus some other regulars and for last 40 minutes of serving.
BeerABVScoreNotes
3 Brewers of St. Albans - Classic English Ale4.00ExcellentSuperb head and lacing. A good old-fashioned bitter, minus the often fruitiness in them. First sip and a wonderful malty hit. Good mouthfeel of a hint of caramel with a very dry, bitter, moreish aftertaste.
Kent - Green Dwarf3.70ExcellentFresh on today and frothing all over the top of the glass and perfect lacing down the sides. Oozing with hoppiness and a pleasant sharpness in the mouthfeel. Everything to like about a virgin green hop brew to my taste buds.

Quiet footfall for last 40 minutes of serving.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Brew York - Tonkoko4.30GoodGood creamy head and lacing. Initial sip and you duck in case you get hit by its toasted coconut flavouring and in the coconut shy of old fairgrounds. Imagine drinking a Bounty Bar and you have its flavours in one but strangely not sweet and sickly. One half sufficed for me.
Mighty Oak - The Henge3.70GoodTwo I had of this were still lively with a head and lacing. But the last one was minus its frothy head. Still full of a very dry, bitter and moreish mouthfeel.

Iron Pier - Wealdway IPA4.50GoodGood condition but I recall this once being a clear not a murk ale
Brew York - Tonkoko4.30GoodNeeded more natural carbonation to really bring on the flavourings

Busy for last 30 minutes of serving and with fiddlers playing in the rear seating area.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Oakham - Celeste4.00GoodGood head and lacing. A very lemony mouthfeel. Its tropical fruit flavours are a bit like a whisky might taste though not tasted one for years. Resinous hints come from it also and with a slight fizz on the tongue.
Mighty Oak - The Henge3.70GoodStill holding its head and lacing on its 3rd night. First tried it on its first night when even livelier. A very dry, hoppy hit on every mouthful, leading to a very satisfying dry, oily aftertaste.
Iron Pier - Challenger Joined at the Green Hop (2024) 4.20AcceptablePresented with a small head but this soon evaporated and was minus lacing. Fruit hits on every sip with a citrusy mouthfeel. Tastes slightly medicinal. One was sufficient.

Mighty Oak - The Henge3.70ExcellentSuperb head and lacing for this Maldon bitter and new on today. Not sweet which I applaud. A slightly malty hit to it and a hoppy mouthfeel. It was so moreish that I stuck to it.

Kent - Cobnut4.10GoodGood head and lacing and still had this some 30 minutes after being served at about 10.50pm. A malty first hit and which lingers alongside the dry, bitter mouthfeel.
New Bristol - My Citra Romance4.50GoodGood head and lacing at first but did not hold it for long. Lightly fruity with a lingering hoppiness.
Iron Pier - First Gold & Ekuanot Joined at the Hop3.80AcceptableNo head or lacing. Still had a fruit hit on first tasting and a hoppy aftertaste.

Iron Pier - First Gold & Ekuanot Joined at the Hop3.80GoodNew on today and very good head and lacing. Hoppy flavouring and almost like a green hop beer with the lingering hoppiness.
