Been ages since I've been here. A little quiet after the Friday lunchtime rush, but has a good feel to it as a bolthole from the busy High Street.

Wantsum - Turbulent Priest4.40ExcellentGood dark roasted toasted malts, good condition and my favourite of the Wantsum beers I've had.

Not been here for quite a while. Ian and I started our "Old School" tour of Canterbury here. Hey a Wantsum beer on! Good stuff. Nice smell of chilli in the pub.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Wantsum - Turbulent Priest4.40ExcellentGood condition. My comments on this beer say, "Toasted roasted pig beer". Not sure what that means but I know I really liked the beer.

I love the atmosphere here at night, apparently they're getting trouble from the council which is a bit of a shame. Sat out side and mingled with the crowds over a few beers.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Cottage - Nun Wiser4.50AcceptableSame again really, malty with a little hop background. Exactly what I come to expect from a Cottage beer.

Arrived at around 11 in the evening and was surprised to find it relatively quiet, must be because all the students have gone home. Still a good crowd though. Just had a couple before they called time. The beer isn't fantastic here but I think it makes up for it in atmosphere.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Cottage - Wheel Tappers Ale4.00GoodFor a Cottage beer I was actually quite impressed with this one. It still has the basic malty flavour that all of their beers do but also with a little fruit and toffee. I actually rather liked it.

Really busy as I expected for a saturday night. This place has a fantastic atmosphere with a really good mix of people from aging hippies through to young punks. Great fun.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Badger (Hall & Woodhouse) - Flowers IPA (subsequently contract brewed at Brains)3.60AcceptableHaven't had a pint of this in years. Not a bad beer but pretty bland. Malty and a little fruity. Better than a pint of fosters...
Cottage - Crackaway Jack4.00AcceptableYet another mediocre ale from Cottage. I'm starting to think they just brew one beer and give different barrels different names. Malty but not much else going on.

Absolutely heaving at around 9 on a thursday night. Stood outside among the crowds of student types. Really good atmosphere.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Cottage - Hop n Drop4.20AcceptableWasn't particularly hoppy at all really. Very malty and pleasant enough to drink. But you'd have though a beer with the word hop in the title would be at least a little hoppy?

I've not been here for years; probably for 8 years. It hasn't changed much. Even the beer line-up looks the same. The outside seating was empty as it was raining outside and inside there were a scattering of people reading papers and having lunch. The girl behind the bar was friendly and the pub had a nice relaxed atmosphere.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Marston's - Bass4.40AcceptableNothing wrong with this but I've still not had a top-notch pint of it outside of the midlands. There was some sulphur on the nose and some harsh hops on the end. Drinkable but not really my choice for a session (not that I had time for one)
Badger (Hall & Woodhouse) - Flowers IPA (subsequently contract brewed at Brains)3.60Not Tried

Pub no. 7 on my crawl. I came in mid afternoon to find a work colleague propping up the bar who persuaded her partner to very kindly buy me half a Bass. Small, intimate pub that is popular with the student population of Canterbury
BeerABVScoreNotes
Marston's - Bass4.40GoodCopper colour with earthy caramel, good hop in moouth, and especially on the end. Good yeasty/hop/slight caramel beer.
