Tasting Summary

These comments are the opinion of the individual reviewer and represent what they thought of the beer on a particular day in a particular pub. If a review is less favourable, it may be because the beer suffered somewhere in the supply chain between them and the brewery.

Hogan SamplingExceptional30 Aug 2025 Head and lacing, superb, and lasting, admirably. A pleasantly dry bitter first bite on this ale from just outside Faversham, Kent, in going south to Brogdale Farm. A hoppy-infused bitterness hiking upwards with a striking maple-infused syrupy sap-infusion. A dark fruitiness rising with its biscuity maltiness. A moreishly dry hoppiness sailing off ably assisted by its Pilgrim, East Kent Golding and First Gold hops. This micro-brewery, set up in 2012, first launched this strong bitter for export to the US to demonstrate what British beer is made of. It was named after a real life cat which survived the sinking of three Second World War ships: Bismarck, HMS Cossack and HMS Ark Royal.
