Colin LaceyPoor07 Jan 2026 Came up clear, but was again, flat and lifeless. Only sampled.
Philip PirripGood06 Jan 2026 New cask on today. Basic golden ale tending towards bitterness
Hogan SamplingExcellent06 Jan 2026 My first beer of this visit: Fresh on and a very good head and lacing lasting even when the glass had been emptied! This Essex golden ale from Maldon punched a very hoppy first hit. A fruity bitterness rising with hints of mango, lemon and elderflower. A maltiness winning over and so quelling much of its fruitiness. Very moreish!

Hogan SamplingGood24 Dec 2025 2nd beer of this visit: Was recommended this by a fellow regular and was not disappointed. Fresh on was this Essex golden ale from Maldon and very good head and lacing and lasting profusely. A hoppy fruitiness in the first hit. A subtle sweetness rising, being a golden ale, but could not sniff the aromas of mango, lemon and elderflower. A hoppiness pervading from its likely Kazbek hops bred in the Czech Republic but not stated, and known for providing spicy hints and aiding the beer's caramelised fruitiness. A slight maltiness, as alluded to in the guvnor's tasting notes, on its parachuting off Santa's sleigh which turned up and with tasty ales for tomorrow we all hope!

Hogan SamplingGood20 Dec 2025 1st beer of this visit: Very good head and lacing and present to the end on this Essex-brewed golden ale from Maldon. A sweetish, hoppy first bite. A dry bitter note sauntering up with a biscuity hint. A hop-infused fruity note winning over with a slight kick to it. A fruitiness sliding downwards care of its hints of mango, lemon and elderflower aided by the merest flavouring of marmalade that Paddington Bear would have been proud of.
