Fairly quiet on a Wednesday afternoon.
Magpie - Midnight Mild 4.40 Fairly sweet but with a rather earthy finish. Rather thin in body. My score 14/20.

Quiet as the football was in progress. No mild on yet, so had to settle for the new on site brewery's offering.
Navigation - Stout 4.40 Good example of a stout, with lots of roast malt flavour and some hoppiness in the finish. My score 16/20.

A few locals in. One of the staff was running a sideline of a barber's shop in the pub.
Magpie - Dark Secret 3.70 Ruby mild with quite a lot of malty bitterenss. Little hoppiness and a dry finish. My score 14/20.

Magpie - Midnight Mild 4.40 Ruby coloured strong mild with a fairly bitter malt character and a little roast and dark chocolate in the finish. My score 15/20.

Beer festival in progress with quite a few customers enjoying the good selection of ales.
Bollington - Long Hop 3.90 Hoppy and very pale with good citrus hop flavour. My score 15/20. Coastal - 12th Man 4.00 Lots of citrus hop flavour in this very pale ale. My score 15/20. Empire - Dark Side 4.30 Dark side of pale maybe, a light brown colour but with a roast coffee malt taste more in common with a darker beer. My score 15/20. Abbeydale - Beer Works Dr Morton's Snake Oil 4.30 Very pale and hoppy with citrus hop taste dominating. My score 15/20. Castor - Serene Nene 4.50 Well balanced brew from a brand new Cambridgeshire brewery. My score 15/20. Golcar - Guthlac's Porter 4.50 Very roasty almost burnt malt taste to this dark brown porter. A little hoppiness adds some balance. My score 15/20. Distant Hills (was Howard Town) - Swallow's Nest 4.00 Fairly dry and bitter light brown beer. My score 14/20.

Located in Meadow Lane. Recently reopened canalside pub which has undergone an extensive renovation. Modern but comfortable and spacious interior with a good range of national and locally brewed beers on handpump. Future plans for an in house brewery.
We have visited this pub 6 times, seen 11 different beers and tried them all.
