First visit of this Worthing outing: A good crowd early afternoon of at least 6 in this former cafe which opened as Worthing's third micropub in 2016. Just five minutes’ walk from around the corner from West Worthing Station at 17 South Street, Tarring. Friendly, prompt service and a choice of five real ales to choose from. Very much a locals’ drinking hole as like the other West Worthing micro, it is sufficiently far away from Worthing town centre and beach for my early afternoon visit. The lay-out of high stools and long benches and tables promotes conversation in this smallish space. CAMRA-rated in recent times as Branch Pub of the Year 2018 and 2019, Branch Cider Pub of the Year 2018, 2019, 2024, and Branch and regional Cider Pub of the Year 2025. Unlike its neighbouring micro around the corner opposite West Worthing Station, this one only takes cash payment while the other is card/phone payment only.

Tring - Side Pocket for a Toad3.60GoodPresented with good head and lacing and almost sticking to the end on this Hertfordshire-brewed straw-coloured golden ale from the award-winning independent brewery founded in 1992 and located at Dunsley Farm, London Road, Tring. A fruited citrusy and floral hoppiness in its first bite. A malty touch afforded by its Maris Otter and Pale malts, with its Crystal malt lending it its sweetness with hints of honey and a biscuity, bready dough. A dry hoppiness prevailing from its likely American Cascade. A light fruitiness winning over with grapefruit and lemon flavours coming to the fore before sliding downwards. Served in good condition and perfectly palatable.

Good banter with the locals, and the landlord definitely knows what he’s doing as the beers are very well looked after.

Triple fff - Witches Promise5.00ExcellentWell, it’s been a long time since I’ve had a pint of Hop Back Summer Lightning, and this beer is from the same mould. Lovely. Booooooom.
