4th visit of my outing to Woking and its environs: Quiet on my arrival late afternoon at this very traditional micropub situated in Chobham High Street. A mix of high and low seating to suit all. Three cask ales on with two from Godalming also in Surrey. Prompt, friendly service from the barman and good banter ensued. A steady flow of other customers quickly followed my arrival.

Crafty Brewing - Grumpsters Best Bitter3.90Excellent2nd beer of this visit: Very good head and lacing and sticking the whole way on this deep amber-coloured best bitter from Loxhill, Surrey. A very dry bitter first hit. A gentle maltiness rising with toasted bready flavours from its floor-malted British grains. A spicy hoppiness winning over aided by its English hop varieties, contributing to its bready and biscuity flavourings. A bitter maltiness sailing out. In fine fettle and so very moreish!
Crafty Brewing - Hop Tipple4.20Good1st beer of this visit: Very good head and lacing presented and lasting on this IPA from Crafty Brewing set up in 2014 at Thatched House Farm in Loxhill, Surrey, some 18 miles away near Godalming. A very hoppy first hit. A rising fruitiness from its blend of hops from the USA and the southern hemisphere including Cascade, Chinook, Citra and Columbus, said to be the "founding fathers" of the American West Coast IPA style, and here lending it for my taste buddies a grapefruity sweetness, with hints of lavender, wildflowers and a spicy citrus flavouring. Its Citra also lending it tropical fruits like mango and passion fruit, and its Columbus behind its hints of black pepper and licorice. A dry hoppiness winning over before sailing out and also aided by its Maris Otter and Munich malts. Served in top nick.
Hepworth - Ridgeway IPA5.50Not TriedHepworth Brewery where Ridgeway Brewing is based is approximately 30 miles from Chobham, Surrey.

The pub is found in Chobham, Surrey, GU24 8AA.

This was CAMRA’s Surrey Hants Borders branch’s first micropub and as late as in 2020 to open. It got its name from a pub called The Horse & Groom that closed in 1960 and one of four that once served the village's High Street. The other pub to go was The Old Kings Head, closing in the 1950s. The premises occupies about half of the original Horse & Groom pub as the neighbouring estate agents occupies the other half. Inside this smallish space, and so truly fitting the bill for a micropub, are a range of high and low tables including one called the Saddle to follow the theme of its name. Two compact patios, one covered and one open, are to its rear. Three hand pumps in operation on a visit in April 2026 and complemented by eight keg taps serving local craft ales, lagers and stouts. In 2022 this micropub was voted runner-up by Surrey Hants Borders CAMRA for Pub of the Year. No food but a selection of bar snacks with local sausage rolls available on Friday and Saturday. Pizzas can be ordered from a few doors away. No loud music and where conversation rules except for when the occasional karaoke night takes place.

We have visited this pub once, seen 3 different beers and tried 2 of them.
