Late morning visit and mostly wet led trade at this time of day. Service was slow and I very nearly walked out without having a drink. Wetherspoon's policy of no standing and drinking at the bar clearly being ignored here.

More traditonal pub feel to this small Wetherspoon with a good range of local and guest beers. Located by the busy traffic junction next to Micklegate. 10 handpumps including 2 usually used for ciders. Upon entering the bar one is faced with an amazing array of stainless steel T-bar keg outlets. The handpumps are more towards the rear of the bar. Opened as a Wetherspoon house in May 2002 - an existing pub taken over by Wetherspoon, The Punch Bowl has been at the corner of Blossom Street and Nunnery Lane since 1770. The sign of the 'Punch Bowl' dates from the end of the 17th century, when it became the sign of the Whig party. Punch was the fashionable drink favoured by the Whigs, while the Tories preferred more traditional drinks, like claret and sack.

We have visited this pub 8 times, seen 24 different beers and tried 9 of them.
