More gossip abounded in the back bar of this cosy little pub at lunchtime. I am now much better informed on the personal life of numerous staff at nearby Durham Prison.

I sat in the front bar and enjoyed a chat with a couple of locals. A couple came in and asked for directions to the Victoria, and I had to give them the bad news that it closes in the afternoon and they only had ten minutes to finish their pint and run.
