The pub is found in Aldgate, Central London, E1 8AH.

In Little Somerset Street, this is a small house, once located in narrow Harrow Alley, but now in an area which has been opened up for the building of Aldgate bus station. The pub has been here since at least 1820, but it is presumably the descendent of the Star pub which was here by 1756. The alley became known as ‘Blood Alley’ following the Jack the Ripper murders, and apparently this pub was nicknamed the ‘Blood House’ although that seems now to have died out - and in any case, other sources say the nicknames pre-date the Ripper and are connected with the butchery trade that used to dominate this area. Robert Louis Stevenson is said to have written part of Treasure Island whilst staying at this pub. Traditionally it was a Charrington’s Brewery house. There is a narrow area alongside the bar, opening to a small seating area at the rear. There is an outside, pavement drinking area and an upstairs room which is brought in to use at times. Planning application to demolish. A replacement pub would be part of the new development.
