It was quite busy but no overly so, bar staff did a good job of ignoring me. I've only walked out of 2 pubs in my life and they've both been 'spoons!

Convivial atmosphere around tea time and decent service. Interesting adaption of an old meat market building.

The pub is found in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, ST1 1NQ.

In Hanley, the first Wetherspoon outlet to set up in the Potteries, converted from an old shopping arcade; now a Lloyd's No.1, the music is quiet during the day, but can get noisy in the evening, when the pub is full of the younger set. Split on to two levels, food is served all day in accordance with the usual JDW policy and there are around four guest beers on offer. Note that there is a lift between the two levels. Named after the inventor of the Spitfire. Born and educated locally, Mitchell died before his famous plane flew on official action in the Second World War.

We have visited this pub 3 times, seen 17 different beers and tried 5 of them.
