Visits Details

24 Aug 2024 (Hogan Sampling)
Very busy for our late afternoon visit as tiny on the inside for this 9 year-old micropub. But we managed to squeeze in and on high bench seating. Friendly barmaid served very promptly. This micro was taken over by Wharf Brewery just outside Coggeshall, near Colchester, in December 2023.

Early evening and there are more than the stated capacity of 12 crammed into here. Many people have been to a Beer Festival at the Blue Boar which I did not know about, and I find an old friend from Chelmsford wedged into one corner.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Farmer's Ales (Maldon Brewing) - Hotspur6.00ExcellentI don't really approve of the beer's name - but it is nevertheless a really good, strong. chestnut-coloured ale of the Winter Warmer type.

The pub is found in Maldon, Essex, CM9 5BX.

This was a cross between a bottle shop and a micro-pub, in an ancient building at the bottom end of the High Street. Possibly the smallest pub in Essex. Was the Maldon Brewery taproom with Maldon Brewery bottled beers are sold for take away, and had seating accommodation for 12 and a selection of cask beers to drink on the premises. Now renamed and a micropub and brewery tap for the local Wharf Brewery.

We have visited this pub twice, seen 5 different beers and tried 3 of them.
