Back with another couple of cyclists - and Irishman and an Ozzie. We all liked the pub - and a rain shower encouraged us to stay for a couple of beers before heading 3 miles into Monmouth.

Found this luckily en-route to Monmouth. From Rebrook you can cross the River Wye on foot via an old railway bridge. The road route is about 10 miles I think. Superb setting with tables on the high sided valley and some overlooking the river across the narrow road. Hatch service with three good beers on. My fellow cyclist was oozing compliments about Butty Bach. I felt I recognised this and sure enough I have a “card index” record of it from 1988. Noted the that it had “SE prices” £1.35 for a pint of Old Peculier.

What a great pub. It's right an the banks of the Wye and is old school. The garden is on the slopes by the side of the pub. Jane, Isabel and I sat and played cards.
