The pub is found in Farnham, Surrey, GU9 7HX.

A gem of an old-fashioned backstreet pub found in Long Garden Walk, a partly pedestrian-only street comprising old terraced cottages and just feet from Castle Street, the latter street leading up to a real castle that is still there on a hill overlooking Farnham. A February 2026 visit confirmed its was currently still without serving food which helped to set it apart from the usual modern gastropub to be also found in the area. This visit also witnessed the first real log fire for the area’s pubs that was lit and glowing and so linking to their website’s mention of roasting chestnuts on the open fire in winter months. The freehold belongs to Fuller Smith & Turner and the licensee is detailed on their website as Martin Groves who has also attained the Fuller’s Master Cellarman qualification for looking after cask ale. Lots of bar stools around the bar conjuring up that olde-worlde feel of pubs where conversation ruled at the bar along with some tables dotted back from it. One beer sampled on a visit in February 2026 of three on, including an additional guest beer from Fuller’s, proved to be well kept. The pub was built in 1864 and is now in a conservation area. It is named after Farnham's hop growing heritage and indeed there are some framed historic photographs on the walls bearing testimony to this. Traditional green tiles are seen still in place behind the bar and there is even an upright piano to one side of the bar in a side room which lends itself to live music on occasions. The three regulars on, on a February 2026 visit were Dark Star Hophead (now brewed by Fuller’s), Gales’ Seafarers bitter (now brewed from 2006 by Fuller’s Griffin Brewery in Chiswick, London, and formerly of Gales Brewery of Horndean, Hampshire) and Fuller's London Pride.

We have visited this pub once, seen 3 different beers and tried 1 of them.
