Afternoon visit, and for a while I was the only customer so I sat and enjoyed the very good background music. I have been past this pub many times but this was my first visit.

There are so many different beer events and festivals on in London this weekend that it is hard to choose which to attend. This pub is jointly hosting a festival of Geordie beer and music with the nearby Gunmakers, and I show my face briefly in the late afternoon. My first visit here in years to tell the truth.

The pub is found in Clerkenwell, Central London, EC1R 3BL.

This pub was established by the 1870s as the Butchers Arms and was historically a Watney’s Brewery pub. By 1983 it was trading as the Betsey, but was put up for sale by Watney’s. Shepherd Neame acquired the pub after a short period of closure, and in 1991 expanded the pub name to Betsey Trotwood, a name which will be familiar to readers of Dickens. There is a single ground floor bar, a basement music venue, and some pavement tables.

We have visited this pub twice, seen 7 different beers and tried 2 of them.
